I agree with Natalie and Becky. Usability is very important and the reason to get a website in the first place. But without a good design, no one will take the time to visit your site.

I think design and navigation both are important. Can’t imagine a website succeeding with a poor design and slow navigation.

I think the design is important but by newbies it is often over rated. Good navigation is important and often over looked.

Web design and marketing are beginning to go hand in hand more now. It may well pay to hire a team who can handle all aspects of the design according to marketing, user friendliness and seo friendliness as well. A coherent team working together cans ave you a lot of wasted money down the track.

There are of course web designers who have a good knowledge of marketing tactics within design and there are even marketing specialist who can put together a very good design. It pays to research well into exactly what you are getting before you hand over any money. Also look at their design portfolio and see if that is what you had in mind. It might help to learn a little about what works best in design as far as marketing goes and adjust your way of thinking about what is important in your site. The most successful websites in the world are very simple in design and have a catchy brand. So think about that before you decide a flashy site with lots of bells and whistles is what you want. Take the ego out of design and replace it with customer comfort and need and you’ll be heading down the right track.

Sure the site look is very important, in some cases it’s more important than the content itself because if it’s catchy then people like to stay a little longer on your site. As far as I am concerned I plan to go the hard way with web content, I need quality content and I am not making any compromises here.

Are specialists willing to put that kind of work and effort into the marketing of a website after it is already up and running?
